why we gather

We gather for no other reason than to gather.

No experience necessary. No performance necessary. No expectations necessary.

Come just as you are - bring along your curiosity, your joy, your playfulness, your quiet, your noise.

The circle is ready for you!

A Place to be

I believe we need more third spaces: places beyond home and work where people can come together simply because they want to!

As adults, opportunities to play and connect often come with a price tag. We socialize over drinks, purchase experiences, or sign up for activities with goals and outcomes.

That's all well and good, and it can be enjoyable!

But what if we could just gather?

What if we had spaces where adults could be curious, playful, spontaneous, and(maybe more than) a little ridiculous? Where we could explore something new without needing to be good at it? Where we could act like kids again, just for the fun of it?

That's why I host free community drum circles at Willow Woods.

Not to teach a particular skill... not to sell an experience.. not because anyone needs fixing or improving...

We gather for no other purpose than to gather.

Rhythm gives us something to share -it's what we've always done as humans on this planet, play gives us permission to loosen our expectations, and returning to the circle gives us the opportunity to become familiar faces in one another's lives.

Come play with us!

  • Arrive As You Are

No musical experience, special equipment, or particular state of mind required! There's room for beginners, seasoned drummers, listeners, and everyone in between.

  • Play Together

Explore rhythm, curiosity, listening, and creative expression. There is no audience and nothing to get right! We'll make music together and stop intermittently to check in on how we're feeling... just to make sure we're all feeling good!

  • See You Next Month!

Come once, come often, bring a friend, or arrive on your own. Over time, strangers become familiar faces and a gathering becomes a community that communicates without words for an hour once a month, and leave feeling lighter every time!

A few things to note

Always free

My home community drum circles are offered without an admission fee. Registration simply helps me prepare for everyone who's coming - I love putting a name to a face!

No experience necessary

Whether you've played for years or have never touched a drum, you're welcome to join. You literally cannot do this wrong!

Instruments are available

You're welcome to bring your own drum or percussion instrument, or use one from the Willow Woods Collective Drum Library. We use mainly frame drums and shaker eggs, but we don't discriminate!

An adult-centered space

These gatherings are designed primarily for adults, with room for both joyful play and quieter moments of reflection and listening. If you're wondering whether the environment would suit your child, please reach out before registering - the intention is for you to be able to show up fully without responsibilities, and we wouldn't want your kid to have to act like a grown up either - gross!

Participation is always an invitation

You can play, listen, pause, rest, or engage in the ways that feel comfortable for you. If you don't feel like drumming, you can use a shaker egg, or simply listen. All experiences are valid here!

Location details and seasonally relevant gathering-specific information are available through the registration process.

There's room for you here

You don't have to know anyone. You don't have to know how to drum. You don't even have to know exactly why you want to come! You just have to show up.

Sometimes it's enough to feel curious about what happens when people come together and hit something with the intention of connecting to our sense of community.

Free to attend. Registration required.
